Right in the centre of Scotland and
taking in both Highland and Lowland, it isn't surprising that
many famous folk have passed this way. Some had a dramatic
role to play in Scotland's story- like Sir William Wallace
or Mary, Queen of Scots. Others made their contribution to
literature and in passing through the area, left their written
or poetic impressions. In this category are figures such as
Robert Burns or William Wordsworth.
The area also has its own claim on its famous
sons (and daughters) who made their mark in many fields, so
that while Helensburgh-born John Logie Baird invented television,
he was also creating the medium through which others from
the area, including sportsmen, actors and actresses, as well
as pop singers, all became household names.
There are other categories. Drawn to the fine landscapes and quality of life, many famous folk have made their homes here. And with so many beautiful settings and, especially, outstanding hotels, churches and grand homes, the area has had more than its share of celebrity weddings!
