Jackie Stewart
Dumbarton CastleBorn in Dumbartonshire on 11 June 1939, Jackie Stewart began his career in Formula 1 in 1965 and won his first Grand Prix at Monza in Italy, finishing third in the World Championship in his first season. Racing for the Tyrrell team he won 27 Grand Prix races out of 99 starts. He became World Champion in 1969, 1971 and 1973 and was runner-up in 1968 and 1972. He retired after winning his last Championship. His record of 27 wins stood for 20 years.

Kenny Logan
Blairlogie Old KirkStirling born Kenny Logan made his rugby debut with Stirling County First Team as a 17yr old. In 1996 he moved south to join London Wasps where he played for 7 years. Kenny represented Scotland at U18/U19/U21 Level and made 70 international appearances. He has recently returned to Scotland to play with Glasgow Rugby for the 2004/05 season.



Willie Carson
Stirling BridgeBorn in Stirling in 1942. Despite a car accident in1967, Carson became one of Britain's most successful and renowned jockeys. He was champion jockey on five occasions and the first "Jockey to the Queen" in 1977. Carson retired in 1997, with more than 3,800 race wins, including the Derby on four occasions (1979, 1980, 1989 and 1994). He now works as a television commentator and a racing manager.

Billy Bremner (1942-1997)
Old Town of StirlingBilly Bremner, born in Stirling, became a Leeds United and Scotland footballing legend. He captained the most famous Leeds United side ever under the management of Don Revie. In the 1970's Leeds United were the best side in the country winning all before them. Billy Bremner picked up 54 caps for his country. Sadly Billy Bremner died in December 1997 at only 55.

Alan Hansen
Alloa TowerAlloa born Hansen began his footballing career with Partick Thistle Football Club in 1973. In 1977 he joined Liverpool where he was regarded as an outstanding centre-back and he captained the team between 1985 and 1990. During his 14 years there, the team won 7 League Championships, 3 European Cups, 2 F.A. Cups and 4 League Cups. He was also capped 26 times for Scotland between 1979 and 1986. A knee injury ended his playing career in 1991. He is now a television commentator.

Emma Richards
HelensburghBorn in Helensburgh, Emma Richards became the first British woman and youngest ever competitor to complete the longest race for any individual in any sport, the gruelling 26,000-mile solo round the world yacht race, Around Alone. A Glasgow University graduate and former member of the Scottish National Olympic training squad Emma now lives in Southampton.
