ROUTE DESCRIPTION

From Stirling take the A84. Kids will love the Blair Drummond Safari & Adventure Park, or you might prefer to visit the ancient remains of Doune Castle.
Aberfoyle is an attractive village with a thriving main street at the southern gateway of the Trossachs where you can visit the Scottish Wool Centre for sheepdog demos but forget the sheep - look out for the ducks!
Continue North on the A84, crossing the Highland Boundary Fault through the narrow Pass of Leny. Beyond scenic Strathyre take a short diversion to Balquidder, to see Rob Roy’s Grave.
Back on the A84 you’ll skirt lovely Loch Earn (water sports) then climb high through Glen Ogle, before turning right on the A827 to reach the mountainfringed village of Killin. The Breadalbane Folklore Centre recounts Celtic legends, including that of the healing powers of St. Fillan.
Soak in the scenery as the A827 follows silvery Loch Tay to Kenmore (more water sports), then Aberfeldy. Visit the town’s working water wheel or enjoy the Birks o’ Aberfeldy – a popular local walk.
Continue by the A827 then A9 (North) to the substantial resort of Pitlochry. The Festival Theatre and Faskally Dam with its fish-ladder for leaping salmon are highly popular. There’s also a choice of local distilleries to visit.
Return South by the A9 to the beautiful village of Dunkeld, sheltered among highland foothills on the banks of the River Tay. The nearby Hermitage offers popular woodland walks and a dramatic waterfall.
Take the A822 for a scenic excursion via Amulree and the picturesque ‘Sma Glen’. At Gilmerton, join the A85 to Crieff – a great place to browse in shops or explore local walks. Glen Turret Distillery and the local crystal factory are well worth visiting. Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre, outside nearby Comrie, is perfect for children.
Follow the A822 South via Muthil and Braco to rejoin the A9 towards Dunblane and Stirling.
